Manpower: 6% of Honolulu employers to hire in 3Q - Washington Business Journal:

From July to September, 6 percent of the companies intervieweds in the Honolulu metro area plan to hire more while 11 percent expect to reducetheir payrolls, according to the surveyu from Milwaukee-based (NYSE: MAN). Seventy-eigh percent expect to maintain their current staff levelxs and 5 percent remain uncertaib abouthiring plans. Hiring is expectede to be a little lighter than in thesecons quarter, when 10 percent of companiee surveyed planned to hire and 12 perceng expected to cut payrolls, said Manpower spokeswoman Mary Lou Callahan.
For the comintg quarter, job prospects in the Honolulu area appeare best in wholesale and retail trade and leisure and Employers in durablegoods manufacturing, nondurable goods information, professional and business education and health services and government intenfd to cut staffing. Hiring in construction, transportation and financial activities and other services is expectefd toremain unchanged. National survey results showed little change from thesecond quarter. Of the more than 28,000 employersa surveyed acrossthe country, 15 percent expect to increasw their staff levels during the third quarter, whilde 13 percent expect to reduce theie payrolls.
