A resolution is moving through Marysville City Council that would providse fora 10-year, 75 percent propertt tax abatement valued at about $1 million for Scotts, one of Central Ohio’s 50 largest employers and amongt its 10 largest public companies. Scotte is looking to mount a $23 milliomn project to build a 40,000-square-foot manufacturing facility that will retain 15 jobs and create 33 full-time and 39 part-time Marysville Administrator Jillian Froment said. The new plany would process coir, the outer husk of coconuts that’s used in EZ Seed products.
“(Thes product) has seen success and they can’t keep it on shelves,” she The proposed new manufacturing jobs, Fromeng said, would generate an annual payroll ofabout $3 milliojn in the city, home to more than 1,000 Scottsa employees. Scotts also has committed to find permanent space for 150 employeezs it has temporarily housed in portabler school buildings atits headquarters, Froment said. That will mean a new 20,000-square-fooft facility, cost details for which weren’tr available. “This is ensuring 150 jobs remain in Marysville instead of another CentralOhio community,” Froment said.
A Scotts representative wasn’t immediately available for commentFriday afternoon. Council clearec a first read of the proposec incentive and could finalizre the proposal as early asJuly 23, Fromen t said. A public hearinbg on the company’s plans is set for July 9. Scotts in the year ended Sept. 30, 2008, lost $10.9 millio on $2.98 billion in revenue. The company has abouft 6,400 full-time workers
